This one hurts
This one hurts. A hard corn under the 5th metatarsal head can be incredibly painful because every step loads pressure directly onto it. When that pressure builds up, the skin thickens — and the thicker it gets, the more it presses back into the tissue underneath. In this case, we’re carefully removing the corn with a number 15 scalpel blade. No anaesthetic — just precise, controlled reduction of the hard skin. We’re intentionally taking a little less than usual today. With corns like this, removing everything in one session can sometimes leave the area too tender. By reducing it gradually, we keep you more comfortable and allow the tissue to settle. We’ll review this again in 4–6 weeks (possibly a little sooner) and remove more once the sensitivity has settled. Progressive reduction is often the smarter long-term approach. If you’re getting sharp pain under the ball of your foot — especially toward the outside — it may be a pressure corn like this one.
