How a Ball-of-Foot Callus Is Carefully Reduced

A thick callus across the ball of the foot is gradually reduced with a scalpel. Thin layers of hardened skin are removed in controlled strokes, working across the raised area a little at a time.

Removing the Thickened Layers

The scalpel is held almost flat against the skin as each fine layer is lifted away. Several passes are used over the densest areas instead of trying to remove the full thickness in one movement.

The Result

As the loose layers are cleared, the raised patches become flatter and the surface looks more even. The contrast between the untreated callus and the reduced area becomes clear as the work progresses.
