Why Do Some Corns Hurt So Much? In this video, our podiatrist is carefully removing a deep midfoot

Why Do Some Corns Hurt So Much? In this video, our podiatrist is carefully removing a deep midfoot corn using a sterile No.15 blade. This particular corn isn’t very wide — but it’s quite deep. That’s why it produces such sharp, pinpoint pain when the patient stands or walks. Corns form from ongoing pressure and friction. The skin thickens to protect itself, but when that pressure becomes concentrated into a small area, it creates a hard core that presses directly into the deeper layers of tissue — and that’s when it becomes painful. With precise scalpel debridement, we: • Remove the overlying callus • Reduce the central core • Immediately relieve pressure • Improve comfort when weight-bearing For many patients, this provides instant relief. However, it’s important to address the underlying cause — whether that’s footwear, abnormal pressure distribution, foot mechanics, or high activity loads — otherwise the corn will simply return. If you’re dealing with painful corns, foot pain, or pressure areas, we can help.
